We arrived by car from the north of Hamburg which took us about 45 minutes from door to door. We came in at a Friday noon. The arrival went very smoothly. Practically, we got a place to park at the car park behind the Hotel. The welcome was super friendly, relaxed, organized, and down-to-earth. The very kind receptionist showed us around the restaurant area. She gave us our room key and tourist cards for the beach (you will need them to enter the beach) and accompanied us to the elevator so we could bring our small luggage easily and directly to the room.
At the room, everything was super clean, and lovely decorated. We got some sweet snacks, an organic tea, 2 glas bottles of water and a welcome letter with information about the city and activities. The style of the room suits the natural and sustainable beach interior style of the hotel. Our room had a cozy smaller size about 172 ft²/16m² and it was equipped with a comfy natural latex COCO-MAT bed, bedside tables, a desk, chairs, TV, a huge balkony where you can sit and see a bit of the sea, and a closet with a safe. The cozy room had everything we needed to wind down.
The clean and bright bathroom was lovely decorated with a wooden rack for storage, cuddly bathrobes and linen flip-flops. And the best: it has a huge modern rainforest shower where you find certified natural shampoo and shower gel by STOP THE WATER.
If you wish to get your clothes washed or ironed, simply put your garment into a paper bag. You find the bag in the closet with a related price list.
The Hotel SAND´s Restaurant is called “Culinary” which offers delicious, fresh, locally, and ethically sourced dishes created by chef Mirko Sträudel. The restaurant is seperated in a few seating areas and one private dining room (10 pers.) which are all beautifully decorated and differently designed. The renewed interior is contemporary and made with so much love for detail and sustainability. I love the braided makramee and plant traffic lights. At the restaurant, you get breakfast, lunch, dinner, and yummy cocktails at the bar. A part of the restaurant is available as brassierie during the day. During good weather, I recommend to sit outdoor at the cozy terrace which is surrounded with sand and fire candles at night. The terrace is perfect to enjoy a sundowner in the evening and having breakfast in the sun.
The breakfast starts at 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. (loving the long time frame) and offers a big European Buffet with homemade marmalade, fruits, yoghurt, different eggs, salmon, cheese, cold cuts, bread, croissants, granola, and more good treats.
My absolute favorite meal at this restaurant was the dinner. The food is super fresh and delicious. They offer various choices with locally sourced fish, meat, and veggies, organically sourced wherever they can. Each dish is prepared with carefully selected ingredients that are lovely decorated on the plate.
There is a big choice of outdoor activities you can do. Just across the Hotel is a small path which directs you to the beach. Only a few meters away and you can enjoy a good time at the beach. At the beach, you can rent a beach chair which is typical for windy German beaches to stay warm. If you want to experience something unique rent a sleeping chair at the beach and you can stay the whole night. The chair is prepared with real bedding blankets and cushions and a picnic basket filled with delicious snacks and a bottle of sparkling wine.
You are able to rent bikes at the Hotel. Cruise along the coast of Brodtener Ufer through Travemünde while being surrounded by nature. It takes ca. 1,5 hours and you have the most beautiful view over fields and the baltic sea. Just make a stop for a bite to eat or drink on half the way at Brodtener Café and sit back and relax while watching the sea. On this way, you discover artful iron benches shaped in animal motives where you can sit down and have a picnic now and then. Or you can stop at the harbor in Niendorf which is really close to the Hotel SAND.
Sports like golf, wind-surfind, kyte surfing, diving, gymnastics, yoga, fishing, and stand-up-paddling are also available. Hotel SAND has its own personal trainer Jan-Henning Hansen and health coach Bintu Cham who can be booked for personal consultancy and motivational sessions. Other and cultural activities include concerts, markets, and port guidance.
If you need some advice, tips, or support for activity bookings just ask the kind employees of the Hotel SAND and they will help you to organize your day.
I am also excited to see the new second building of the Hotel which will be ready in June 2017. Above, you can see the amazing view from the roof-deck of the new building. The roof-deck gets a sauna, eco-friendly whirl-pool, a bar, and also a sleeping chair. Additionally, the new 4-levels building offers 30 new modern and eco-friendly rooms, having all the same style and size. The rooms will be super modern equipped as they will have a surface low window site with soundproofed sliding doors and a balcony. In this new building, you will have the chance to book your spa treatment or yoga session which will be held in the basement of the building. Just going by elevator from the basement to the roof to enjoy sauna afterwards.
I loved our stay at Hotel SAND. Thank you to Hotel SAND and the team and Green Pearls for making this cozy stay so lovely. I will definitely come back very soon!
