Situated in the heart of downtown Copenhagen and just 1 minute walk from the main train station, the Eco Hotel Axel Guldsmeden is not only urban chic but also very conveniently located. Arrived outside at the hotel, coffee tables welcome you to relax. You only need to ring the bell to get to the hotel. The reception area in the lobby is cosy and furnished with sustainable wooden furniture and decorated with Persian carpets, marble coffee tables and green indoor plants.

The hotel consists of a front and a back house. To the back house one comes through an inner courtyard, in which the beautiful terrace of the hotel bistro and bar Café du Nord is located. By the way, this is also the way to the spa. But I’ll come to wellness later. In Copenhagen, of course, cycling is a good way to be sustainably on the road. Therefore, you can simply rent a bike from the hotel for a day price.

The Room

I lived in a comfortable and bright room in the front house with a huge window to the street. Since the window is isolated you haven’t heard much of the street noise, but you can open it if you like.

In the room you will find a small storage with selected organic snacks and drinks. In the bathroom there are organic and environmentally friendly products from I Love Eco Essentials: shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, bamboo toothbrush, organic toothpaste tablets and more. As the products are really good you hardly need to bring anything of daily hygiene care products which is also very cool and practical.

For your clothing and stuff, there was a larger wardrobe with plenty of storage space to hang and also a little desk. The quality of sleep was very good. The bed was incredibly cosy with a thick cosy blanket and white organic cotton bed linen.

Breakfast

Every morning from 6:30 – 10:30 AM weekdays and 7:00 – 12:00 AM weekends (love the hours) they have the best healthy, organic breakfast buffet ever. You have a huge selection of superfoods and there is something for every taste: muesli, porridge, chia pudding, yoghurt, raw cacao nips, almonds in agave syrup, ginger shot, spinach, veggies to name just a few. There are also classics such as bread, cheese, cold cuts, eggs, jam and healthy chocolate spread. If you are in a hurry, you can take a coffee to go in an eco cup on the road. I enjoyed the breakfast very much, it was a great start to an active day.

Spa & Gym

If you return to your hotel from your day, you have the possibility to go to the small but efficient gym and the signature Balinese-inspired spa. I loved it when I came back to the hotel from that day to finish the evening relaxed in the gym and spa. In the spa area you can apply yourself green organic beauty masks and peelings, which are offered free of charge. It really is a small relaxing oasis with sauna, steam bath, cold and hot water tub and some lounge chairs.

Organic Bistro Café du Nord

At the hotel´s own bistro Cafe du Nord you can eat delicious, healthy and 100% organic dishes such as avocado toast and salads. It is best if you order different dishes with a few people and you share them. yummy. Opening hours are: 7:00-1:00 daily.

Otherwise if you want to go out, you can just walk down the street and find a lot of cool hipster spots with tasty dishes and seafood. Here a few restaurant tips: bobbistro.dkmotherrestaurant.dk, wedofood.dkfood8.dk.

Conscious Shopping

Do not forget to check out the amazing selection of organic products by I Love Eco Essentials and sustainably made kimonos and robes by Danish ethical fashion label Underproduction in the lobby.

I enjoyed my stay at Axel Guldsmeden very much and I will definitely come back next time. Thank you so much for hosting me, Axel Guldsmeden!
