Augustin Teboul is a German-French designer duo from Berlin. I shot backstage photos of their new A-W 16 collection before their fashion show in Berlin. Afterwards I did an interview with the duo. I liked to know more about the handmade couture process like the technique and the materials they used. Unfortunitely I did not get very much information about it 🙁 . But additonally I got the information, that Odély knits and crochets very much by her own for the prototypes. I also got the info that they produce in small sewing studios in Europe and cooperate with a knitwear studio in India. However I hope you enjoy reading the interview below.
Your designs are super sophisticated. You absolutely stand out with your collection at Berlin Fashion Week and you are obviously a very creative profound team. How do you start your creative process together?
We don’t have a rule, a collection can start with a theme, or just one idea, one detail.
We do a lot of textile samples, pattern research, it’s like a ping pong game, one idea brings another, and the collection is getting developed…

Many musicians, like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani wearing your clothes. It´s often the strong, feminine sexy provocative woman. Is “she” the woman who inspires you? And how much does music influences your designs?
It’s true that strong women are very much inspiring us.
We have the idea of someone that dares to be herself, that knows how to be provocative but elegant at the same time.
The winter 16 collection speaks lots of colorful details. Is the upcoming winter collection your first colorful collection? And how are the details handcrafted and what kind of fabric did you choose?
We’ve introduced touches of color this season, it was the first time, and it was quiet exciting. When you are used to restrain yourself to black monochromatic work, it’s quite a challenge to find the way you’re going to use color and still keep your signature at the same time.
We used much knit, crochet, embroidery, leather, chiffon, wool, lace. We mix the materials and like to create our own textiles.
Where does your (handmade) production take place?
We are making the prototypes in our atelier in Berlin.
Where can we buy it?
In different cities internationally and you can contact us here: sales@augustin-teboul.com
